The Geoscience Centre of the University of Coimbra

Organization

The Geoscience Centre was recently reorganized to get better scientific results and financial support. It consists now of eight research groups:

1.Basin Analysis, Systems and Sedimentary Resources (leader-Rui Paulo Bento Pena dos Reis);

2.Physical Geodynamics (leader-Carlos António Regêncio Macedo);

3.Geo-industry (leader-Nelson Edgar Viegas Rodrigues);

4.Engineering Geology (leader-Mário de Oliveira da Quinta Ferreira);

5.Geochemistry of Granitic Rocks, associated Ore Deposits and Crustal Fluids (leader-Ana Margarida Ribeiro Neiva);

6.Hydrogeology and Water Resources (leader-José Manuel Martins Azevedo);

7.Research and Communication in Paleontology and Stratigraph (leader-Maria Helena Paiva Henriques);

8.Modelling of Geological Systems (leader-Luis José Proença Figueiredo Neves).

The Geoscience Centre has an Executive Committee formed by a president and two members, and the Scientific Committee consists of all Ph.D. researchers and the representative members of researchers without a Ph.D..

The Executive Committee is ellected by all the researchers of this Centre and must approve all the changes. On the 2nd of May 2002, the new Executive Committee was elected and consists of Rui Paulo Bento Pena dos Reis as president, and two other members Luis José Proença de Figueiredo Neves and Nelson Edgar Viegas Rodrigues.

From the changes introduced resulted:

a) the old group 1 originated the groups 1 and 7;

b) the old groups 3 and 4 remained without significant changes, but they are now groups 5 and 8 respectivelly.
