domain of specialization
In the widest context, my researches tend to lie in ecotoxicology and conservation. To date, during my research career, I have gained numerous skills in analytical chemistry as related to environmental contaminants (e.g. pesticides and metals), experimental design (e.g. bioassays), and field work (e.g. oceanographic campaigns). I have studied and fine-tuned methodologies to monitor exposure to pollutants through both invasive (blood) and non-invasive (feces) sampling applying a wide battery of biomarkers and biochemistry parameters. I have studied toxicant accumulation at different trophic levels, and effects in wildlife from the molecular to population level. Furthermore, I have previous experience in undertaking multidisciplinary investigations (ecotoxicology, parasitology, conservation, and animal and human health), which I believe to be crucial in the development of effective research, which in turn, furthers and advances can be extracted from diverse research areas.

present investigation interests
My current research interests are focused on the study of the effects of natural and anthropogenic pollutants on ecosystems from conservation and restoration perspectives. More specifically, on the development of ecotoxicological in situ bioassays (including toxicity tests) based on local invertebrate estuarine species, and on the study of the utility of these bioassays as a tool for ecological quality assessment of water bodies under the European Water Framework Directive. Additionally, I have a special interest in developing and validating biomarkers using non-destructive sampling in order to implement wildlife monitoring programs. The study of the relationship between environmental pollution and oxidative stress, as well as the relation between environmental pollution and parasites, from transdisciplinary perspectives (including ecological, toxicological and medical viewpoints), are other current topics of interest. https://qwaterprojecteu.wordpress.com/
