Sven Erik Jørgensen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1934. Ecologist and Chemist, he is a jubilated Professor of the University of Copenhagen, being presently Professor emeritus in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Analytical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Sven Erik Jørgensen was awarded the “Stockholm Water Prize” in 2004, and “Doutor Honoris Causa” by the University of Coimbra, Portugal. He became a world reference in Ecological Modelling from the 1980s, having authored more than 300 scientific articles, including more than 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has written or edited at least 57 books, monographs, and compilations of articles. |

Mike Elliott was born in 1952. He is presently Director of the Institute of Estuarine and Coastal Studies, from the University of Hull in UK.
He is is a marine biologist with a wide experience of biological and environmental analyses, but also with interests in marine management and policy. His teaching, research, advisory and consultancy work has included studies of sediments, water quality, zooplankton, intertidal and subtidal benthic communities and fish communities, as well as policy, governance and management. Professor Elliott produced more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has co-authored or edited 10 books and conference proceedings on estuarine and marine issues. |

Born in Jutland, Denmark, in 1954, Søren Nors Nielsen obtained the PhD in Structurally Dynamic Modelling in 1992, in the University of Copenhagen, and the “Agregação” in 2009, in the University of Coimbra. He is a world expert on the application of thermodynamic methods for the analysis and assessment of biological systems functioning, mainly in aquatic environments, and of ecological modeling in environmental management. He authored or co-authored a large number of papers in peer review journals, book chapters and books. |
