Christopher M.A. Brett obtained his B.A. degree in Chemistry
from the University of Oxford, UK, in 1977, and his D.Phil. in Electrochemistry
from Oxford University with Prof. John Albery in 1981.
In 1981 he was appointed to a Lectureship in Chemistry at Coimbra University.
He was awarded the D.Sc. degree from the University of Coimbra in 2002.
He is a member of CEMUC,
Research Unit 285 of Fundação
para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT).
Director of the Laboratory of Electroanalysis and Corrosion, Instituto
Pedro Nunes, Coimbra.
President of the International
Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) 2007-8, (Past President 2009-10; President-Elect 2005-6; Vice-President 2003-4).

Present research activity in national and international projects, from
fundamental research through to applications in the environmental, food
and health areas concerns:
- Novel electrode materials, nanostructured materials, surface–modified
electrodes and conducting polymers
- Electrochemical enzyme biosensors
- Sensors for electroanalysis of trace species using flow and injection
systems
- Metallic corrosion and its inhibition, dental amalgams in biological
fluids,
- Electrochemistry in ionic liquids
- Kinetics and mechanism of electrode processes.
Further information on research
Author or co-author of more than 200 scientific articles and publications.
Co-editor of special issues of Electrochimica Acta (1998, 2004) Analytica
Chimica Acta (1999), Pure and Applied Chemistry (2001), Analytical Letters (2004,2006) and Microchimica Acta (2008, 2010). At present member of the Advisory Editorial Board of the
journals “Talanta”, “Bulletin of Electrochemistry”
and “Analytical Letters”.
