Structure
The Centre of Pulmonology (CP) was approved in 1978
by the former National Institute of Scientific Research (INIC), and
since then has been coordinated by:

. Luís
Cardoso de Oliveira (1996-2006)
. Carlos Robalo Cordeiro, since 2006.
It is the Unit 123 of the Science and Technology
Foundation (FCT) and is made up of an Administrative Board, that
includes 5 PhD Professors:
Manuel Fontes Baganha (Professor of Pulmonology),
Santos Rosa (Professor of Immunology), António Segorbe Luís (Professor
of Clinical Immunology), Carlos Robalo Cordeiro (Professor of
Pulmonology), Lina Carvalho (Professor of Pathology),
and an External Advisory Board, with 4 PhD
Professors:
António Rendas (Medical Sciences School, New
University of Lisbon), António Coutinho (Gulbenkian Institute of
Science, Associate Laboratory, Oeiras), Om Sharma (University of
Southern California, Los Angeles), Ulrich Costabel (Ruhrlandklinik,
Essen).
As to the previous update, the Centre includes 21
PhDs, 36 non PhDs researchers (4 masters, 5 PhDs students and 2
master’s students) and 6 collaborators (technical and administrative
staff).
In the last triennium (2003/2006) there were 14
ongoing projects and participation
in 4 European network studies.
The CP was submitted to external evaluations
organized by the FCT with international panels, and classified as
Excellent and as Very Good.
