The Centre of Pulmonology of
Coimbra University Medical School (CP), approved in 1978 by the former National
Institute of Scientific Research (INIC), is coordinated by Carlos Robalo
Cordeiro, since 2006.
It is the Unit 123 of the
Science and Technology Foundation and is made up of an Administrative Board,
that includes 5 PhD Professors:
Manuel Fontes Baganha (Professor of Pulmonology),
Manuel Santos Rosa (Professor of Immunology), António Segorbe Luís (Professor of
Clinical Immunology), Carlos Robalo Cordeiro (Professor of Pulmonology), Lina
Carvalho (Professor of Pathology),
and an External Advisory Board,
with 4 PhD Professors:
António Rendas (Medical
Sciences School, New University of Lisbon), António Coutinho (Gulbenkian
Institute of Science, Associate Laboratory, Oeiras), Om Sharma (University of
Southern California, Los Angeles), Ulrich Costabel (Ruhrlanklinik, Essen).
Though the CP is based in the
Department of Pulmonology and Allergology of Coimbra University Hospital, it
includes a multidisciplinary research unit, functioning in collaboration with
several Departments and Laboratories of the University Hospital and Medical
School, the Sciences and Technology School, the School of Economics and Aveiro
University. Also, the Pathology Department, ENT Department, Infectious Diseases
Department, liability centre of the Cardiothoracic Department,
Histocompatibility Centre, Experimental Pathology Laboratory, Genetics
Department of the Faculty of Medicine, Institutes of Immunology and General
Pathology, IBILI, the Fluid Mechanics Department and the Chemistry Department of
the Sciences and Technology Faculty, Mathematics Department of the Economics
Faculty.
Actually, the Centre includes
21 PhDs, 36 non PhDs researchers (4 masters, 6 PhDs students and 3 master’s
students) and 6 collaborators (technical and administrative staff).
