Evelyn Schlag
Was born and raised in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, in Lower Austria, where she now lives. She studied German and English Literature at the University of Vienna and was a teacher before becoming a full-time writer. She is the award-winning author of seven volumes of prose fiction, a book of essays on Literature and Medicine, which reflects her interest in Katherine Mansfield, and five collections of poetry. Writer-in-residence Carlisle, USA (2001) and Ingeborg-Bachmann-Centre London (2004). Her work has been translated into French, English and Italian. She translated Douglas Dunn's "Elegies" into German. Recent publications: fiction - Die göttliche Ordnung der Begierden (Residenz Verlag, 1998) and Das L in Laura (Paul Zsolnay Verlag, 2003); poetry - Das Talent meiner Frau (Residenz Verlag, 1999), Brauchst du den Schlaf dieser Nacht (Paul Zsolnay Verlag, 2002) and Selected Poems (translated by Karen Leeder, Carcanet, 2004).
