Zehra Çirak
Zehra Çirak was born in Istanbul in 1960. She moved to Germany in 1963 and was raised in Karlsruhe. She has lived and worked in Berlin with the visual artist Jürgen Walter since 1982.
Her first volume of poetry (with illustrations by Jürgen Walter), Flugfänger (artinform,Karlsruhe) was published in 1987. This was followed in 1991 by Vogel auf dem Rücken eines Elefanten (Kiepenheuer & Witsch, Cologne), a collection of poems and short prose, and two volumes of poetry, Fremde Flügel auf eigener Schulter (1994), and Leibesübungen (2000), both published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch
She has received the following grants and awards: Adelbert von Chamisso Most Promising Young Author Award (1989), Friedrich Hölderlin Most Promisting Young Author Award (1993), Adelbert von Chamisso Award (2001) and Poetry Award of Amistade  Multietnica Poeta Anima Istranza, Olbia (2005).
The primary emphasis of Çirak’s work lies in her collaboration and performances both at home and abroad with visual artist Jürgen Walter, in which her texts go along with his sculptures. Information in photo-text-sound on this collaboration can be found at: www.juergen-walter.com
