FABC - Borja da Costa Austronesian Fondation

This fondation was constituted in Portugal in 1986, and its major objective is to preserve the identity of East Timor by defending and making publicly known its original Culture and historic heritage. The name "Austronesia" comes from the ancient Neolithic "Austronesian Culture" existing in this area of South Eastern Asia more than 4000 years ago. Borja da Costa was a Timoreese writer, who became known for his poems and speeches in Tetum (the official language of East Timor). He was killed on December 7th 1975, the day of the Indonesian invasion.

FABC promotes the study of Tetum language; East Timoreese religion and its evolution related to animistic, budist, muslim and christian influences; the anthropological and sociological research of East Timoreese society; and the study of Portuguese colonization in Southeastern Asia and of the Asian influences upon the culture and language of Portugal. The Fondation is also concerned with the study of the Timoreese diaspora before and after the Portuguese colonization.

FABC welcomes the participation from researchers from the various fields of Anthropology, Law, Economics, Etnology, History, Linguistics, Psicology, International Politics and others.
